Good (not) free music #011: Derek Webb again

I'll be upfront with you:  I'm going to tell you to spend money you don't have to.  A while back I told you that a acoustic version of Derek Webb's latest album, Ctrl, was available on NoiseTrade.  That was a very, very good thing.

Now I'm here to tell you that the studio version of Ctrl is $5 on Amazon, and you should get it.  Why spend the money, especially if, like me, you've already got the freebie?  A couple of reasons, actually:

1.  Musicians and their kids gotta eat.

2.  Webb not only gives away a lot of music, he founded NoiseTrade in order to help other artists give it away too.  Say thank you by spending a few bucks.

3.  While the lyrics and melodies are the same, the two versions of Ctrl are really completely different animals.  The acoustic one is a great demo.  The not-acoustic one is a great album.

4.  There's a free companion record, Nexus, by Webb's side project Sola-Mi.  It's primarily electronic pop.  Listening to it back-to-back with the acoustic Ctrl nearly snapped my neck with genre clash.  The studio record should be a better fit.

Really, if you like Derek Webb, you've probably already got this one.  If you're familiar with his work and don't like it, I'd encourage you to give it a shot anyway.  Webb's outspoken politics are nowhere to be found here; Ctrl is a stranger and more personal record than he's done before.  And if you're still not convinced, the acoustic version is still free.  Live it up!
